The Delta Girls Softball Association is looking forward to warmer weather and another great softball season. It’s not as far away as you might think, so come join us and get in on the fun! Your 2012 DGSA Board:
Your Board is comprised of 13 members each serving a two-year term. The following list shows your current Board members for the 2012 season.

Josh Dorman – Coaches Pitch League Rodney Brooks – Rookie League These Liaisons are available to address any questions, concerns, or comments you wish to communicate to the Board. Please feel free to contact any of the appropriate League Liaisons or a board officer at your convenience.
Registration for the 2012 season: Registration forms can be found on our website, www.deltagirlssoftball.com. Registrations may be returned via US mail or by attending one of two on-site registration sessions. There are two on-site registration sessions that will be held at the Royerton Elementary cafeteria. The first will be Wednesday, February 22th from 6:00PM-8:00PM or Thursday, February 23th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. A player must register on or before March 9th in order to remain on the same team as last year. Players who register after the draft registration deadline of March 9th will automatically be placed in the draft.
Registration forms received after the draft on March 9th but before April 14th (Registraion deadline) will be placed on the next available team subject to available roster openings. Registration forms WILL NOT be accepted after April 14th. NO EXCEPTIONS! Ages for League Participation: The age determination date for placement in the various leagues continues to be January 1. This means players are eligible for league play during the 2012 season based upon their age on January 1, 2012. The board has decided to overlap ages in Coaches Pitch and Rookie League so the parents have the choice of which league to place their child.
2012 Ages by League: Out of concern for player safety and to help ensure proper skills development before moving to the next league, the Board strongly encourages players to register in the appropriate league according to their age on January 1, 2012. Those players who have a strong interest in moving to the next league before attaining the stated age will be required to complete a petition form along with their registration form. These forms may be obtained at the two on-site registration sessions or on-line. A parent/guardian of the player will be required to sign the petition form acknowledging that they understand and accept that the player in question may be playing with other girls that are bigger, faster, stronger, and who compete at a higher level. The petitioning player will also be required to participate in a skills test in order to be considered for approval into the league. All petitions will be subject to Board approval. Petitions to move a player to the next league more than one year early will not be accepted. Players who are petitioning into a different league will be required to attend a separate skills assessment session on Monday, March 12th (Minor & Major leagues: In the Royerton Gym @6:30pm). PLEASE WEAR GYM SHOES. Player Draft: Players in the Coaches Pitch League will be placed on the teams without a tryout. Rookie, Minor, and Major Leagues rosters will be filled by an “open draft”. Open draft means that the selecting coach will know the identity of the player being drafted. All players participating in the “open draft” will be expected to participate in the skills test before the draft, or the player will be placed in a blind Supplemental Draft. Players new to a league, or choosing not to return to the same team, are expected to participate in at least one session of the leagues’ draft skills to give coaches an opportunity to assess a player’s skill level. These skills tests will be held on Tuesday, March 13th and Wednesday, March 14th (Rookie: 5:30pm, Minor: 6:30pm, Major: 7:30pm). Draft Date for Coaches – Monday, March 19th in the Royerton Elementary Library (Rookie: 5:30pm, Minor: 6:30pm, Major: 7:30pm). Concession Stand Assistance: DGSA will continue to subsidize the Concession stand with a ten dollar fee on the registration form. On the registration, the parent/guardian will indicate whether he/she will volunteer to work in the concession stand for the ninety minute period (one period for each player the parent/guardian is registering). The parent/guardian will then be responsible for contacting a board member to set up concession work schedule. This fee will be returned once the volunteer commitment has been fulfilled by the parent/guardian. Corporate Sponsors: If you or someone you know represents an organization interested in becoming a corporate sponsor of DGSA, please submit that information to a Board member. All corporate sponsors from 2011 are being contacted in hopes they will return as a corporate sponsor for 2012, but we always welcome new sponsors! Fundraiser: In addition to registration fees and corporate sponsor support, we will again sponsor a fundraiser to help defray some of the costs of the Association. Each player will participate in the fundraiser, paying a fundraiser fee along with their registration fee which is due at the time of registration. Coaches: We will soon be contacting our coaching staff from 2011 season to determine which coaches are eligible and interested in coaching again this year. If you are a parent/guardian of a girl registering in DGSA, and are interested in coaching, please contact a Board member and/or indicate this interest on the player’s registration form. Also, those who will be coaching our 2012 season, there will be a coaches meeting on Saturday, April 7 at 10:00am at the Royerton cafeteria to discuss all dates, rules changes, and other important information. THIS IS A MANDATORY MEETING. 2011 Calendar: It is our desire to begin Major League play within a few weeks of Opening Day depending on Delta High School’s schedule. We will also try to conclude our Coaches Pitch, Rookie, and Minor league seasons before Independence Day. Tentative dates for our primary activities are noted below. This schedule is based upon an estimate of the number of teams in each league and may need to be adjusted once the actual number of players in each league is determined by our registration process. Please tentatively mark your calendars for these important dates.
